INTENTIONLESS GRACE
Diane Kilderry
May 9 – July 12 2009

A collection of old metal objects found at a country tip became the starting point for the abstract paintings and drawings in this exhibition. Inspired by the form and essence of these found objects, Kilderry's ghostly, meditative artworks create space for the viewer to move past the literal world to the subjective space beyond.

These objects have now lived out their useful lives, but still reside as powerful evocations of purposeful presence… The purely functional role that was their only reason for being has now been overshadowed by the attraction of their general obsolescence and imperfections and has resulted in their current state of intentionless grace. ' – Diane Kilderry.

ANOTHER DEAD POSSUM
Emma Johnson
11 July– 4 August 2009

Burrinja Artist in Residence Emma Johnson has been working away in her basement studio this year creating drawings, paintings and sculptures after playing about the forest covered hills of the Dandenong Ranges . Alongside these works will be interactive works that give visitors the chance to get arty. ‘ The Awesome Laughing Chalkboard' is a 3-D laughing face chalkboard that you can draw and write on. Each day, photographs of the work in progress will be placed on display around the chalkboard, putting your artwork on the wall.

Emma will also be creating a large 2m x 3m painting and collage during the show and will be in the gallery every day from 10am – 4pm for the show, until the 31 st July. Visitors are invited to bring to the artist items of inspiration, which may then be interpreted on the gallery wall, at the artist's discretion. Emma says ‘Items can range from writing, photographs, objects, ideas… anything, be creative !'. Expect to find an atmosphere where everyone, no matter what age, can feel free to have fun and get involved.

As a large part of the work will be created during the show, the exhibition event is more like a closing party - on Friday July 31 at 7pm. The catering is supported by Loving Earth - so expect lots of hot chocolate, raw chocolate, cakes and treats.

Emma is in her studio at Burrinja most days from 10am – 4pm, and she can be contacted via Emma on the web. Studio visitors are always most welcome!
