ABORIGINAL ART ACROSS AUSTRALIA
Key works from the Burrinja – Shire of Yarra Ranges Indigenous Collection
Exhibition until January 2009
Aboriginal art has its roots in a very ancient culture, but artists today are also expressing issues of social justice, cultural practices and spirituality born from the last two hundred years of colonisation. Curated by Tiriki Onus, this exhibition aims to highlight the vast diversity in Aboriginal cultural and artistic practice across Australia .

This feature exhibition includes many significant Collection and loan works that have not been exhibited at Burrinja for over five years, giving the viewer an overview of Aboriginal art from five major regions of Australia . Traditional and contemporary works from both established and emerging artists have been chosen for the exhibition. The artists represented include some of the most internationally respected artists in Australia .

Aisling Gheal "bright dream"
Veronica Sexton
Exhibition 16th October 2008 - 11th January 2009
Opening Thursday 16th October 7pm

Award-winning Irish born sculptor, Ronnie Sexton, is a contemporary woodworker who creates free-flowing, free-standing sculptural pieces up to 3.5 metres high from recycled local timbers. Her distinctive style is heavily influenced by her Celtic origins, but also includes Hindu and other spiritual inspirations - Angels' wings and gold leaf work meld with celtic crosses, knotwork and curls.

RESONANCE

Tracey Roberts
27th November to 10th December 2008
Exhibition to be opened by Councillor Samantha Dunne on Thursday 27th November at 6.30pm.

An exhibition of original, vibrant musical images by visual and performing artist, Tracey Roberts.

"I have always been fascinated by the various effects of music - the rich diversity of sounds from the many countries of the world, and the vast array of musical genres and instruments we create - as well as the sensual and primal components of the human form and psyche.

This collection of work, entitled Resonance, is born out of that fascination and my constant intoxication with the emotion, imagery and synergy created by that magical relationship between instrument and performer. It is also an exploration into the intriguing world of those gifted with synesthesia. As a singer, song writer and performer I am acutely aware of the vulnerability around exposing songs and music that often reflect very intimate and personal thoughts and experiences, hence the recurring themes of nakedness and closed eyes."
