HG Pottery - Helena Griffiths – Studio 3
"No matter what I did I always came back to visual forms of expression. At first I painted with water colours, then moved into commercial art and graphic design. I've enjoyed woodworking, sculpture, stipple art, lamping glass beads and batik. 25 years of computer graphics was followed by 10 years of pottery and now a love for oil painting.
There is an appreciation for nature in my art.
I get inspiration from what I see around me.
Here I am able to experiment and produce art in an indulgent environment, that is wholly creative."
HG Pottery and Arts Studio will open its creative doors at the Burrinja Cultural Centre in Upwey, with a selection of Helena's art, pottery, paintings, sculptures and special items for sale from local artists too!
Brook Winfield - Studio 4
Brook Winfield is an artist who embraces many art forms including painting, drawing, print-making and ceramics but has a particularly strong interest in the method of sculpture.
Using a very large array of materials such as wax, sculpey, plaster, bronze, paverpol etc, Brook aims to create sculptures that challenge our notion of reality by taking familiar aspects of our existence and portraying them in unusual ways, causing us to question what we thought we first saw... or knew. Sometimes there are messages to be discovered, other times it is just a reminder of an incredible creature that used to exist, could exist somewhere in the unknown or one that probably never will. Her belief in our increasingly distant but eternal connection to the Earth and all the flora and fauna that share it with us, is often the underlying inspiration behind her creations. While some artworks take on a more serious side, she also loves a good laugh and enjoys making pieces that bring a more comical or humorous aspect to her work.
Using a range of techniques from casting and carving to assemblage and modelling, Brook creates sculptures from a tiny to large scale, suitable for the mantelpiece or outside garden and everywhere in between. Her proficient talent earned her the award for best modelling skills at Monash University in 2006 while she was studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree under the guidance of the late and great artist Les Kossatz. She also completed a preliminary and advanced certificate of Art and Design in her home state of Western Australia and a Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne.
Brook hopes that her studio at Burrinja becomes the place to go when people are looking for a unique and special artwork or gift that will never be found anywhere else and she is always happy to have someone to talk to while she works on her latest creation.
