Education

Due to building works Burrinja is only able to deliver a very limited Education/Tour program in 2011. Workshops and related activities listed here are not available at this time. If you are interested in our Education program, please check our website in 2012.

Education

Burrinja specialises in educational tours of its Indigenous Collection. Schools and groups can participate in hands-on Aboriginal art classes with an indigenous artist or take part in programs studying Indigenous art and culture.

Workshop and event programs offer a range of cultural activities from children’s workshops to demonstrations, art talks and master classes. Burrinja provides a venue for various culture related workshops and courses.

Burrinja Gallery specialises in educational tours of its Aboriginal and Oceanic collection, delving deep into the stories and culture that have influenced thousands of years of Indigenous art work. Schools also have the option to participate in hands-on Aboriginal art classes with visiting Indigenous artists or take part in demonstrations and seminars on Indigenous art techniques. A resource kit is also available, providing valuable guides to further follow up information for both students and teachers alike.

Burrinja Gallery Education Programs

For Schools wishing to take advantage of this fabulous Edu-cultural resource, Burrinja Gallery offers a wide range of programs linked to the Gallery's collection and supporting school curriculum. These include tours, talks and hands-on activity programs for students; professional development and workshops for teachers as well as information and resource kits for follow up activities and research.

Art and Cultural Learning Tours

A comprehensive tour of the gallery's collection. Includes in-depth discussion of the stories and culture behind the paintings, the artists and their lands.

Art and Cultural Workshops with Indigenous Artist

A hands-on workshop conducted with an Indigenous artist. This involves students commencing work on their own piece of art using traditional techniques as demonstrated by the artist facilitator. The style of work (dot painting, raark etc) depends on the background of the particular artist.

An Indigenous artist guides students through creating art with traditional symbols and totems, explaining the stories and meanings behind them, as well as hand stencilling. (Activities are altered for age appropriateness.) Teachers and supervisors are required to assist the students during the workshops.
